1. How is the 2018 season going for you currently?2018 is going brilliantly so far. After a disappointing year in 2017, I am making up for it big time and really enjoying the training and competitions.
2. What has been your best result so far?Archie has been on fire this year so far. After winning the Regional Championships at Inter 1 in February, he had a cracking show at The Winter Championships in April to finish a fantastic fifth and third in the Inter 1 and Inter 1 Freestyle respectively. It was his first big show for over a year and it was quite clear he was very excited to be there.
Following that we were very lucky to be invited to the incredible Bolesworth International in June. Wow, what an amazing show. The setting is stunning and the facilities are outstanding. To top it off Archie was fabulous again to finish in the prizes, with a fourth and seventh in his first CDI!
We have just come back from Hickstead Premier League where Archie competed in his first Inter A. This is the step up between Small Tour and Grand Prix. He also produced a brilliant test to win the Inter 1 class there, which qualified us directly for the National Championships in September.
However, not to be outdone by his best buddy, the five year old, Equine Construction's Freeman. He has been out to a couple of shows and scored a massive 80% to qualify for the Young Horse Semi-Finals at Hartpury in July. He was also invited to compete at Bolesworth. Although this time I decided it would be a bit too much for him at the moment, as we've been taking things really slowly, so we are saving him for next year.
3. Where are you headed for in the Autumn?Next up is Hartpury CDI in July and the Young Horse Semi Finals, and then we have Hickstead CDI followed by the National Championships in September.
After that there is a possibility of going abroad to a CDI in October but I will see how Archie is doing after all the big shows he's done. After all he's successfully tackled his first Inter A, and I'd like to consolidate the Grand Prix training over the Autumn and Winter, which will then mean he is ready to compete properly at the level next year.
4. Who are your stable stars currently?Definitely Archie and Freeman, the boys are doing brilliantly.
5. Have there been any major changes so far this year?I've decided to cut down on the horses in my yard this year to concentrate on more coaching. I was selected on to the BEF Youth Pathway Coaching Programme which is an 18 month programme of workshops. It is an incredible scheme, learning from fantastic speakers and being in an inspiring group of hugely talented coaches. I love learning and come away buzzing every time.
I've also been travelling a lot more for training at home and abroad, which is really exciting. When I have horses competing internationally at Grand Prix again, then that will be my focus, but right now I've got a lovely balance of coaching, training my horses and competing in the UK.
6. Which Haygain product/s are you finding most useful at home and away at competitions?I love the Haygain bags to store my freshly steamed hay in for the shows. It keeps my stunning new Empire lorry all sparkly clean and they make the hay so easily portable. The steamed hay stays fresh and the horses love it.
